Fmr. Dem Senator Evan Bayh: Obama Should ‘Disavow’ Priorities USA Ad

Image
Former Democratic Senator (and Governor) from Indiana Evan Bayh appeared on Fox News Sunday this week — and during the show, he offered his take on the controversy surrounding the recent ad released by Priorities USA Action. While President Barack Obama and his campaign have not disavowed the ad, Bayh said it might be “helpful” if they did. “If we’re going to retain our credibility as Democrats to condemn the other side when they go too far, which they have with regard to the president from time to time, we need to also disavow ads like this,” he said. Asked whether the president should respond thusly, Bayh said such a response would be “helpful” because it would allow him to “take the high ground” and be in a stronger position to defend himself when he’s the subject of attacks that go too far. But, Bayh digressed, the real conversation is going to be about substance “at a time when this country desperately needs progress.” Take a look, via Fox: View the original article here This ...

Obama ‘Welcomes’ Paul Ryan To Race, Deeming Him ‘Ideological Leader Of The Republicans In Congress’

Image
Campaigning in Chicago on Sunday, President Barack Obama took a minute to acknowledge the newest addition to the this presidential race, Mitt Romney ‘s running mate Paul Ryan . Welcoming him to the race, Obama underscored the economic ideas of the Romney/Ryan ticket, before going on to the criticize them. Deeming Ryan “the ideological leader of the Republicans in Congress,” Obama, pressing back against audience boos, said, “I want to congratulate Congressman Ryan. I know him. I welcome him to the race.” “Congressman Ryan is a decent man, he’s a family man, he’s an articulate spokesman for Gov. Romney’s vision,” he said. “But it’s a vision that I fundamentally disagree with.” Obama then went on to attack the “trickle-down fairy dust” offered by the Romney ticket and Republicans, asserting that the top-down approach doesn’t work. He further argued, per a usual talking point, that Romney would cut taxes for the wealthy while imposing a tax hike on the middle class. Take a look at the re...

Flashback: Paul Ryan And Obama Go Head To Head At Health Care Summit

Image
Memory Lane isn’t always a place of shiny, happy nostalgia. Take for instance the February 2010 debate between President Barack Obama and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, who has just been confirmed as Mitt Romney’s vice presidential candidate. Speaking at the health care summit, a direct Ryan told the commander-in-chief: “Look we agree on the problem here and the problem is health inflation is driving us off a fiscal cliff. Mr. President, you said health care reform is budget reform. You’re right. We agree with that. Medicare right now has a $38 trillion unfunded liability…And in September when you spoke to us in the well of the House, you basically said — and I totally agree with this — ‘I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits either now or in the future.’ Since the Congressional Budget Office can’t score your bill because it doesn’t have sufficient detail, but it tracks very similar to the Senate bill, I want to unpack the Senate score a little bit. And if you take a loo...

Flashback: Obama Also Introduced Joe Biden As The ‘Next President’

Image
Chalk it up to the exhausting task of running a campaign, nerves, or simply a momentary lapse, but Mitt Romney gave the crowd a chuckle this morning when he accidentally referred to his VP pick Paul Ryan as the “next president” of the United States. Mistakes not knowing party lines, Romney is by no means the only candidate who has mistakenly referred to his vice presidential running mate as the “next president’ of the United States. Let’s take a trip back to 2008, when then-presumptive nominee Barack Obama referred to his former Democratic rival Joe Biden as the “next president… next vice president of the United States.” Just a case of history repeating: View the original article here This post was made using the Auto Blogging Software from WebMagnates.org This line will not appear when posts are made after activating the software to full version.

Romney Adviser: ‘World Champion Limbo Dancer’ Couldn’t Get Lower Than Obama Campaign

Image
Mitt Romney ‘s campaign continued criticism of President Barack Obama and the controversial Priorities USA ad on Friday — with senior adviser Eric Fehrnstrom stating the president’s “lost his credibility.” Obama’s campaign, he said, couldn’t get any lower. “When you start running ads accusing you opponent of killing people, then you have lost your credibility,” Fehrnstrom said to reporters at a briefing, according to BuzzFeed. Adding imagery to his sentiment, he noted, “I don’t think a world champion limbo dancer could get any lower than the Obama campaign right now.” This is just the latest in a series of attacks the campaigns have exchanged in light of increasingly negative ads. Fehrnstrom is also the subject of a Huffington Post profile that peers inside “the tough-guy persona that belies his bespectacled, middle-aged moon face.” The piece particularly dwells a bit on the adviser’s past gaffes (including, you’ll recall, the “Etch A Sketch” remark that immediately went viral). 90 More Celebrities Want To Give You 90 Reasons To Vote For President Obama

Image
What’s that, you say? “Hollywood” (shorthand for people who are famous in some way, shape, or form) generally skews in favor of voting for President Barack Obama ? Well, do you have evidence… besides all those fundraisers and celebrity endorsements? 90 Days, 90 Reasons , you say? Oh, okay. Here’s what that is: McSweeney’s, the publisher that has brought you Grantland and works from countless acclaimed writers like Michael Chabon and Stephen King , has launched a new website by that name, solely dedicated to convincing readers to vote for Obama this November. The site is called 90 Days, 90 Reasons because it will feature one new essay from a different celebrity each day leading up to the election. So far, the site has published essays by musician (and former Zooey Deschanel husband) Ben Gibbard and film critic Roger Ebert . Gibbard’s essay pleads with readers to vote for Obama because of his newfound and open support for same-sex marriage; Ebert’s essay used his cancer surgeries a...

Republicans Say Obama Moved Dems To The Left, But They Must Not Be Paying Attention

Image
In a recent conference call with reporters, Newt Gingrich claimed that President Obama is the “anti-Clinton” because while “Clinton was trying to move the party to the center…Obama has moved it to the left.” While it is amusing to hear Bill Clinton ‘s name on the favorable side of a comparison made by Gingrich, the statement was all the more remarkable because it simply isn’t true. On issue after issue, the president has positioned himself as a centrist and a pragmatist, not a left-winger: Private insurance-based health care reform; the most hawkish Democratic foreign policy in a generation; milquetoast financial reform; a refusal to push for any new gun control despite a string of mass shootings — the list goes on and on. Health care reform provides one of the more direct contrasts between the supposedly ‘centrist’ Clinton and ‘left-wing’ Obama. President Clinton’s plan involved a far larger role for government in regulating the insurance industry through plans for a National Health...

Schwarzenegger Approached By Obama White House In 2011 To Join Cabinet, According To Report

Image
According to a report in the Wall Street Journal , California’s former centrist Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger was offered a cabinet position in Barack Obama ’s administration after he left office in January, 2011. WSJ’s Erica Orden notes that Schwarzenegger told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos during the 2008 presidential campaign that he was open to a position in a future Obama White House. In July 2008, on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos, Mr. Schwarzenegger was asked whether he’d consider an energy-related cabinet position with the Obama administration, were Barack Obama, then a candidate, to win the presidency. Mr. Schwarzenegger said he would, replying: “I’d take his call now, and I’d take his call when he’s president, anytime.” It is not clear what cabinet position that Schwarzenegger discussed with Obama administration officials. Politico reached out to the White House for comment but they did not immediately respond. h/t Wall Street Journal > >Follow Noa...

John Sununu Spars With Piers Morgan, Ed Rendell, Deems Obama ‘A Wuss’

Image
John Sununu and Ed Rendell joined Piers Morgan on Thursday night to discuss how presidential campaigning has been so far this election cycle. In a segment that ranged from campaign tactics to gun control, Sununu clashed with the other two, repeatedly deeming President Barack Obama “a wuss.” Sununu said the debates and arguments should be based on the issues but that, instead, Team Obama’s strategy is to destroy Mitt Romney in what amounts to a character assassination. Morgan argued it’s been ugly on both sides, that Romney can’t claim moral high ground, but Sununu begged to differ. “They may have fought fiercely,” he said, but they were talking about policy and issues. The election will be a referendum on Obama’s first term, Sununu insisted. Deeming Obama “a wuss,” he then rattled off a list of things Obama hasn’t done, such as pass a budget. Rendell chimed in regarding the campaign tactics and said that negative ads continue because they do work. Morgan then pivoted to gun contr...
