Romney, Paul Ryan To Appear For First Joint Interview On 60 Minutes Tonight

Image
Mitt Romney and his running mate Paul Ryan will be appearing on 60 Minutes on Sunday for their first joint interview. CBS said the interview will be broadcast on Sunday evening, just a few hours after taping. 60 Minutes is the country’s most popular news program. The New York Times ‘ Brian Stelter notes that the same-day turnaround for the interview is unusual, but it’s “logical” for both the candidates and the network: The campaign has an opportunity to reach tens of millions of viewers just one day after announcing the selection of Mr. Ryan as Mr. Romney’s running mate, thereby creating another news peg for its rollout of what it has dubbed “America’s Comeback Team.” And CBS, with “60 Minutes,” has the shelf space for the interview on its schedule. The interview will not take up the entire hour of the show (which is currently on vacation and showing reruns). Stelter notes that President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden had similarly chosen 60 Minutes for their interv...

Russell Simmons: Romney, Ryan Will ‘Destroy Our People,’ ‘Laugh All The Way To The Bank’

Image
Hip hop mogul Russell Simmons weighed in on the presidential race yesterday, penning a piece about how Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are the two men “who will destroy our people and laugh all the way to the bank.” In picking Ryan, Simmons wrote in a blog post on the Global Grind, Romney made his campaign message clear: “EVERYTHING’S FOR SALE! And all of the money that is made on everything that is sold will be made on the backs of the poor and the working class.” Picturing a Romney/Ryan administration, Simmons wrote that it would be one in which you get what you can pay for. And in their case, that’s everything. “I have a feeling that one of my rich friends will just buy the government and paint the White House green and make Mitt sleep in the basement,” he wrote. Citing his support for the Occupy movement, Simmons said the Ryan pick should be a “wake up call.” “I will ring the alarm as loud as Beyonce ever could and will fight to stop the literal destruction of poor people in this cou...

Mitt Romney Introduces Paul Ryan: He Has Become ‘An Intellectual Leader Of The Republican Party’

Image
Following prodigious leaks, an iPhone announcement, and a press release, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney appeared before a crowd in Norfolk, Virginia, to introduce Americans to Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), his selection as vice presidential running mate. The former Massachusetts Governor made the big pitch in front of the battleship USS Wisconsin , a nod to Ryan’s home state. The Ryan pick will dominate political news for the next several weeks, re-opening the discussion of Ryan’s budget proposal, which is very popular with conservatives. Ryan, a seven-term congressman from Wisconsin’s First Congressional District, was among the riskier of the choices on Romney’s shortlist. Romney was introduced by former Veep short-lister and Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell , who fired up the crowd by taking a few shots at President Obama . He also name-checked former president Ronald Reagan, saying “We’ve got that Romney, Reagan enthusiasm!” Romney emerged to chants of “Mitt! Mitt! Mitt!” ...

Romney Adviser: ‘World Champion Limbo Dancer’ Couldn’t Get Lower Than Obama Campaign

Image
Mitt Romney ‘s campaign continued criticism of President Barack Obama and the controversial Priorities USA ad on Friday — with senior adviser Eric Fehrnstrom stating the president’s “lost his credibility.” Obama’s campaign, he said, couldn’t get any lower. “When you start running ads accusing you opponent of killing people, then you have lost your credibility,” Fehrnstrom said to reporters at a briefing, according to BuzzFeed. Adding imagery to his sentiment, he noted, “I don’t think a world champion limbo dancer could get any lower than the Obama campaign right now.” This is just the latest in a series of attacks the campaigns have exchanged in light of increasingly negative ads. Fehrnstrom is also the subject of a Huffington Post profile that peers inside “the tough-guy persona that belies his bespectacled, middle-aged moon face.” The piece particularly dwells a bit on the adviser’s past gaffes (including, you’ll recall, the “Etch A Sketch” remark that immediately went viral). Romney To Pick Paul Ryan As Running Mate, According to Reports

Image
Multiple news outlets including NBC, CNN and Huffington Post are now reporting that Mitt Romney will choose Representative Paul Ryan from Wisconsin as his running mate. Within minutes of The Romney campaign confirming that it would be officially announcing his pick for Vice President at 9:00 am tomorrow, word leaked that Ryan, a leading conservative voice in Congress, would be the choice. In recent days, numerous media entities have reported that Romney was feeling heat to consider from a stable of more conservative choices including Ryan and Florida senator Marco Rubio as opposed to a more moderate choice like Ohio Senator Rob Portman. A choice of Ryan would invigorate both conservatives, many who have seemed luke warm about Romney, and liberals who would see this is an opportunity to clearly distinguish Obama from the far more conservative Ryan. Ryan, aged 42, authored the so-called Ryan Plan budget that calls for significant tax cuts and entitlement reform that many on the right...

MoveOn Ad Depicts ‘Romney’ Hand Literally Picking Voters’ Pockets

Image
A new ad released by MoveOn depicts Mitt Romney picking the pockets of voters in a very literal sense. The TV ad by the progressive group is set to air in each city Romney is visiting this week. Throughout the ad, a hand bearing a gold watch, which is supposed to be Romney’s, reaching for pockets, as the voters in the ad exclaim, “Mitt Romney, get your hand out of my pocket!” The ad concludes by noting that Romney’s not running to the president of the country, but of the one percent. As a finishing touch, the ad ends with a young woman saying, “I think he stole my birth control, too.” Take a look below: (H/T TPM) View the original article here This post was made using the Auto Blogging Software from WebMagnates.org This line will not appear when posts are made after activating the software to full version.

Fox’s Liz Trotta: ‘Ladies Of The Press’ Envy Ann Romney For Marrying Rich Guy

Image
A recent commentary by Fox News contributor Liz Trotta is such an obvious and ham-fisted attempt to bait liberals (and other full-time residents of the 21st century) that it’s tempting to ignore it. Chock full of nonsense about a supposed “double-standard” between coverage of First Lady Michelle Obama and prospective FLOTUS Ann Romney , Trotta’s “look at me, I’m not PC!” commentary does have value as a textbook example of the right’s tortured persecution complex. The fulcrum for Ms. Trotta’s rant is a contrast between media reaction to Ann Romney’s $990 t-shirt and the $6800 jacket worn by Mrs. Obama at the Olympics (a rep for the designer, J. Mendel , tells Mediaite that the jacket was a loaner). According to Trotta, Ann Romney’s t-shirt was a “scandal,” while Mrs. Obama’s jacket “drew nods of approval from the media.” Along the way, she points out how the press hounded Jackie Kennedy about her wardrobe, until she put her foot down, and how Mrs. Romney’s use of dressage for thera...

Limbaugh Tells Romney To Ditch Eric Fehrnstrom and ‘Get Some Real Conservatives As His Spokespeople’

Image
Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh praised the notion circulating among Republicans on Friday that Romney should make the ideological case for his election and state why President Barack Obama ‘s political values are antithetical to those of most Americans. He took a shot at Romney’s campaign advisors too, particularly longtime Romney advisor Eric Fehrnstrom , who he said the campaign does not need. RELATED: Top Romney Advisor Eric Fehrnstrom: Romney Does Not Believe Health Care Mandate Is A Tax Limbaugh praised a column by Charles Krauthammer who urged Mitt Romney to highlight the ideological distinctions between himself and President Barack Obama. “I have been begging Romney to do this since he became the frontrunner in the primaries,” said Limbaugh, recalling how he heaped praise on former House Speaker Newt Gingrich for celebrating the value of work. “Ideas matter,” said Limbaugh. “Ideas triumph.” “All Romney has to do is get some real conservatives as his spokespeople and t...
